The Pleiades, or "Seven Sisters" (Messier 45), is a young, bright open star cluster located in the constellation Taurus, about 444 light-years from Earth. It is one of the brightest and most recognizable star clusters in the night sky, viable with the naked eye as a tight, shimmering grouping of 7 brilliant blue stars. In Greek mythos, the stars were originally seven sisters who were daughters of the Titan Atlas. To escape the unwanted pursuit of Orion, the Hunter, Zeus transformed the sisters into doves who flew into the heavens and became these stars.
